Jy moet eenvoudig ‘n email stuur.

To the Medical Control Council of South Africa,

This is a direct response and comment on the recently proposed Medical Cannabis Cultivation Guidelines that were released.

In summary the guidelines will not address the single most harmful aspect of cannabis on the South African peoples: Incarceration, and criminal prosecution for the use of cannabis and it’s derivatives.

Locking people up for cannabis destroys lives and giving someone a criminal record for the use of cannabis makes it impossible to regain a normal life even when released from prison. In essence the aggressive hunting down of cannabis users in South Africa by the SAPS and government is creating more problems and harm to the South African people, than the use of cannabis ever will. The war on drugs is a global failure and South Africa has the opportunity to show again that it’s progressive and informed, by not treating cannabis use as a criminal issue, but as a health education issue instead.

If anything is criminal it is that we destroy people’s lives for using the cannabis plant, when there are much more harmful substances available legally.

Other problems with the MCC Medical Cannabis Cultivation guidelines:

  • Excessively unattainable application restrictions
  • Illogical Security, Personnel, Equipment and Cultivation requirements
  • No Home Cultivation, Co-op or Social-club models considered
  • No Primary Care Giving or Compassionate Care model
  • No clarity on different forms of cannabis administration
  • Lack appropriate cannabis dispensing models
  • Unsubstantiated INCB restrictions and quotas
  • No affordable patient access to medical cannabis discussed

I trust that you will take these problems into consideration when making the needed changes to the Cannabis Cultivation Guidelines of South Africa.

High regards,
